Anyone had a flu jab?

Been ‘invited’ to go to the quacks this morning for said injection. Seeing as I’ve only had flu twice in my life and heard more than a few horror stories is it actually worth doing?

I see prevention is no longer preferred to cure.
I guess there's far less sympathy/amateur dramatics involved with not getting ill as opposed to getting ill then getting better.

Never had the flu or a flu jab,I’m 51.
If I ever get it and it fucks me up bad(not dead bad,just bad)then I’ll start getting one annually.
Until then I ain’t getting that shit injected into me voluntarily.

OTB - in GO world, it circumscises you, and integrates you into the Jewish Hive.
In the real world, it considerably reduces the chance of catching flu and being fucked for a few days (if you're relatively young, with chances of worse outcome if you're not).

I have to wait for a phone call from the surgery.
Not happy, as one of the two times I got the flu since I've been having the jab was before the jab.
Got it for my 48th birthday. Don't want it for my 63rd.

Not a fact though.
A 2017/18 military study of DoD personnel showed a 36% increased risk from other non-influenza respiratory viruses if you have had a flu vaccine. As with all studies of this type, needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. What is a fact though is that this study and this statistic has nothing at all to do with Italian victims of COVID.

On the contrary. This meta-analysis specifically looked at vaccination vs not-vaccinated patients (natural immunity), and their sunsequent likelihood of catching flu. As they concluded there was a benefit for some being vaccinated, but the vaccines as a whole, could be improved.
Studies comparing different vaccines to assess the efficacy of one against another, were not included in their findings.

I'm 60 years old and had it for the first time in October 2019. For the first time in my life I have gone a whole without even the slightest cold. Will definitely be taking up the offer of this year's concoction in 2 week time.

Seems efficacy studies comparing vaccines to natural immunity are not a popular line of inquiry, and that’s hardly a surprise given where the funding comes from.

Not directly one of my therapy areas, but a quick search has led me to this, which is a meta-analysis of lots of trials. This was published by The Lancet which is a decent starting point,
They looked at 31 eligible trials and summarised:-
"Influenza vaccines can provide moderate protection against virologically confirmed influenza, but such protection is greatly reduced or absent in some seasons. Evidence for protection in adults aged 65 years or older is lacking. LAIVs consistently show highest efficacy in young children (aged 6 months to 7 years). New vaccines with improved clinical efficacy and effectiveness are needed to further reduce influenza-related morbidity and mortality."
LAIV means Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine.
Clearly far from perfect, but better than nothing for many.
